NEW CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER APPOINTED

The Board of Trustees of the York Academy Regional Charter School is pleased to announce that James Pastore was appointed to the position of Chief Academic Officer, effective July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016.

A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Pastore has more than two decades of experience as a teacher, administrator, and Head of School most recently, as a Director of the Antigua International School in Guatemala. James is fluent in three languages, English, Italian, and Spanish, which he learned while playing on three semi-professional and university soccer teams in Columbia. He has strong experience working with the International Baccalaureate curriculum as well as diverse learning communities.

Pastore earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He received his Masters in Administration from the College of New Jersey.  James began his career as a ninth grade English teacher at the Archbishop Ryan High School in northeast Philadelphia. He continued his career as a high school English teacher in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, San Jose, Costa Rica and Medellin, Columbia.

James returned to the United States where he joined the administration of the Lancaster City School District as a bilingual liaison for the Hispanic school population. He also served as Acting Principal of the J.P. McCaskey High School. In 2000, James joined the Marymount International School in Rome, Italy as a Middle School Principal. From there, James spent five years as the director of two schools, the International School of Trieste and Udine, Italy.

Upon his arrival in York, the Board of Trustees will arrange for an opportunity for parents and students to meet Mr. Pastore.

In memory of our good friend and Board of Trustees member, Mr. William Simpson, who was an avid train enthusiast, the new YARCS playground will be named "Simpson Station," and the railroad theme will be incorporated throughout the playground design. The York Academy sits along an active rail line that connects York to the wider world. The centerpiece of the playground will include LSC-designed "Simpson Station" - a train platform-inspired structure.
